It can seem a little overwhelming all these specifications. Added to the list is the fact that when this router was released back in 2018, there were two variations released, the 22d and the 65d, which were identical in most of their specifications. However, the difference comes in with regards to their 4G LTE Frequency Band, where the 65d is slightly higher than the 22d. Other than the frequency slight difference, all the other specifications are identical. They both can have a maximum of 64 devices connected to them, and they both come with the same Micro Sim input.
In terms of the design and layout, both the 22d and the 65d are the same. They have the same external antenna feature as well as the same amount of ports that can be connected to them. In the box, they both come with the Datasheet and the User Manual. The firmware used is also the same for both units. The Huawei B618 22d and 65d can be managed using the Huawei Hilink App, which is available on both the Apple Store (iOS) and the PlayStore (Android).

The notable differences between the 65d and the 66d are the Frequency band and the fact that the 2 Ethernet ports on the 66d are purely for LAN only. Other than that, when it comes to the layout, the dimensions, and the design, the Huawei B618 22d, 65d, and the 66d are identical. They have all the features one could expect from an LTE router, and they deliver performances as expected.
The Review:
- 22d and 65d:
The Huawei B618 router is user friendly and easy to setup. In terms of the design, it looks decent, with either a matte white or matte black finish. The router set up as an LTE router can reach speeds up to 600mb/s download and 100mb/s upload. This specific router is best used in the home environment. Having up to 64 wireless devices connected is useful – however, not recommended.The setup of the Huawei B618 LTE router is simple and easy. It is a basic plug-and-play unit, where you can insert the sim card and get going. It’s no wonder this has been one of the more popular routers offered with LTE contracts from service providers like Telkom.
- 66d:
The Huawei B618 66d is different from that of the other version under the same model name, in that it says that it can connect up to 64 wireless devices; however, it caps out at about 20. In addition to that cap, while it can reach different frequency bands compared to the other two models, since the setup is different and the 2 Ethernet ports are only for LAN, the 66d is slightly cheaper than the other two models.
Overall Review:
Overall, using the Huawei B618 is the way to go. If you live in an area that is well covered by your service provider, you will find that the signal quality you receive from this router is excellent. The one thing I did notice about this router above others, for example, the B315, is the startup time. The Huawei B618 takes at least 2 minutes to run through its startup protocol, this includes a lot of light flashing, and we weren’t too happy with this lengthy process.
When choosing which router to go purchase between the Huawei B618 22d, 65d, or 66d, we recommend sticking to either the 22d or the 65d. They are both more readily available in South Africa. The downside of the 66d is the drawback of the number of wireless devices that can be connected. So it is slightly cheaper, but you’re sacrificing a lot to save some money. While choosing a specific version for the Huawei B618 isn’t up to you, but depends on what your service providers supplies, we do recommend staying within those two versions if you can.
